Madrid is one of the most complete European capitals when it comes to culture and leisure, an attractive tourist destination based around three main aspects: art, gastronomy and football.
This refers to the group of three art galleries that form a triangle in the Paseo del Prado area: Museo Nacional del Prado, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. The three galleries together form a route which we can follow and contemplate the great masters of the history of art: from El Greco, Rubens, Velázquez, Goya, through to Picasso or Dalí, to name just a few examples.
Gastronomy is one of the most appealing aspects of Spain, and Madrid plays a major role in this. The extensive, varied range of bars and restaurants allows visitors to enjoy both traditional dishes and the most innovative cuisine. Madrid stew, tapas and bar snacks, the famous squid sandwich and Spanish omelette are just a few examples of Spain’s exquisite, varied cuisine.
Top-level football can be enjoyed in Madrid almost all year round. The city has two teams in Division One, both of which have been involved in many international competitions: Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, who play at the Santiago Bernabéu and the Vicente Calderón stadiums and both of which offer guided tours.
